Groundbreaking set for Aug. 27 on new gaming, hospitality and entertainment destination in South Sioux City.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. — WarHorse Gaming will break ground Aug. 27 on a more than 63,000-square-feet casino, hotel and entertainment destination in South Sioux City, bringing the growing WarHorse brand to the Siouxland market and launching the next major chapter in the company’s expansion across Nebraska.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at 4501 G St., adjacent to Atokad Downs.

A $100 million investment, WarHorse South Sioux will feature approximately 600 slot machines, 16 table games, both live and simulcast racing, and a 100-room hotel. The property will also feature Nebraska Ale Haus, a second story patio bar, convention space and an outdoor concert venue—bringing gaming, dining, live entertainment and hospitality together in one destination.

This is a significant investment, and we’re building a destination we believe will make a real impact on the region.”

WarHorse South Sioux will be developed in two phases, allowing the property to establish a presence in the market while construction continues toward the complete casino, hotel and entertainment experience.

The development marks another major step in WarHorse Gaming’s growth across Nebraska and builds on its partnership with the Nebraska Horsemen. Atokad Downs will host live racing beginning Aug. 29, just two days after the casino groundbreaking, putting a spotlight on South Sioux City as WarHorse begins building the next piece of its Nebraska footprint.

And WarHorse South Sioux is being designed to offer much more than a casino floor. Guests will be able to pair gaming with dinner and drinks at Nebraska Ale Haus, catch live entertainment at the outdoor concert venue, attend events in the property’s convention space, spend the night at the 100-room hotel or take in live racing at Atokad Downs.

“We want people to think differently about what a trip to South Sioux City can look like,” Morgan said. “You can come for the casino, but there will be plenty of reasons to stay. Whether it’s dinner, a concert, a weekend away or a day at the races, we’re creating an entertainment destination that we think will give people across Siouxland a new reason to come to Nebraska.”

WarHorse South Sioux will join WarHorse Lincoln and WarHorse Omaha, extending the company’s reach into a third major Nebraska market. The development is expected to create new jobs, attract visitors from across the region and keep more gaming and entertainment dollars—and the economic benefits that come with them—in Nebraska.
